Question 1: Describe the project you just finished
First Picture: I experimented with the different kinds of paint and the different types of painting techniques
Second Picture: Painted in negative photo
Second Picture: Painted in negative photo
What materials I used
-Can of water
-Small, medium and large brush
-Paper towels
-Manila tag paper
-White printer paper
-Powdered tempera paint (black and green)
-Liquid tempera paint (blue, yellow, and red)
-Paint pucks (blue, yellow, and red)
-Pencil
-Ruler

-Powdered tempera paint (black and green)
-Liquid tempera paint (blue, yellow, and red)
-Paint pucks (blue, yellow, and red)
-Pencil
-Ruler
How I made it
First Picture: I first folded my paper into 16 rectangles, each represents a sample of a different type of painting technique. The 11 techniques I tried were using the tempera powder to create transparent/ overlapping, testing out the paint pucks- primary colours/ opaque, using the paint pucks to create secondary colours, using the liquid paint to create intermediate colours and tertiary colours by colour mixing, creating complementary colours, using warm and cool colours- wet on wet to create blending and bleeding, paint tints and shades, create monochromatic colours, crayon resist, dry brush, and sponge painting
Second Picture: I first drew the negatives of a picture I picked the previous week using a pencil and ruler. Then I used 5 techniques I just learned to paint my picture. I used blue sponge painting to represent the sky in my picture, I used tinting to represent the grey mountain going down the side of my picture, I used the green powder paint for the grass blocks at the bottom of the picture, I mixed red and yellow to make the colour orange for underneath the sky, and I used crayon resisting to make the bricks along the wall where the grass is.

Question 2: Describe one new thing you learned through making this project, or looking at and discussing the project from various cultures.
Before this class I had never used powdered tempera paint or paint pucks, I was introduced to a new material that I can now take with me to my future classrooms. As well, I learned multiple new painting techniques that I can use within my classroom. For example, I learned what monochromatic was and how to proportionally mix certain colours from dark to light.

Question 3: Describe how you have communicated a specific idea through making this project.
In the 2nd picture I communicated the idea of a mountain view using 5 techniques of painting. I communicated this idea with the use of lines and colour.

Question 4: Describe what you enjoyed the most about this project and the least.
I thoroughly enjoyed this activity. I especially liked being able to experiment with the paints and try a variety of painting techniques. However, I did not find drawing the negatives and using a variety of techniques to paint in the shapes as enjoyable.

Question 5: If you were to do this project again, what might you change to make it more successful?
If I were to do this project again I would have picked a different negative to draw that would have been simpler to paint or if I were to do this with a class I think it would have been interesting to see the pieces after if the students drew random/ crisscrossing lines all over the page and then used a variety of techniques to paint in the shapes that were created by the lines.
